In the world of denim there are a lot of different ways to beautify a pair of jeans, endless finishes that offer great possibilities to the fabric. In Captain Denim we have different techniques to give a certain wear, wash and, ultimately, the garment. Many of these techniques are carried out manually, making each piece a unique piece of craftsmanship.
Thus, the most used techniques in the sector are:
- Washing stone or stonewashing: it is exactly as it sounds, that is, the pants are introduced in our industrial-washing machines together with pebbles of pumice stone. It is a technique of loss of color due to abrasion because with the movement, the stone wears away the fabric and gives it a heterogeneous finish. It is a technique that, little by little, is becoming obsolete due to the appearance of new processes that achieve the same finish in a more efficient way. An example of this type of washing could be the Petty Vintage Limited Edition.
- Sanding: with this technique we get areas like the knees or the back to be clearer, with greater luminosity. For this, we rub lightly with a fine sandpaper the area until achieving the desired finish. This wear can also be done with an industrial sandblasting machine or with power tools. Look at the thigh area of the Flamingo Ice Blue, it is slightly lighter than the rest.
- Brushing: this is another technique by abrasion but, in this case, wire brushes are used, which rotate at high speed to give a vintage touch to the jeans. Also, brushing is faster than sanding. An example can be the Hardy Big Blue.
- Laser: to make the wear on the cowboy we also use the laser. Specifically, an eco-efficient laser, which uses hardly any energy, does not waste water and does not generate waste. The laser burns the upper layer of tissue by etching the desired shape or effect quickly and efficiently on it. To give an example, you can take a look at the Dutronc Mid Blue, specifically, the whiskers we do with lasers.
- Special effects: for extreme wear we usually scrape and / or cut with blades and sharp tools, with which we get broken like the Denver Premium Broken Blue or the Flamingo Back in Blue.
In general, these techniques complement each other, so in most cases we combine them to obtain the desired finish. Union makes force!
